6th Annual Maggie May Day!

Well here it is upon us again! Another anniversary of Maggie May's third and final surgery to correct her luxating patellas! Today marks SIX years! You can read all about it by clicking the link above.

Maggie May update: SIX YEARS post-surgery and Maggie's legs are purrfect! We even had a little scare recently when Maggie May climbed up onto the top kitchen cabinets to try to tussle with Maizy... when I started to run towards her to help her down.... she.....JUMPED! Jumped from about 7' onto the floor. I felt like the world stopped for a minute and we just stood there waiting for her to move. She did. Just like nothing had even happened. If only she knew how scared we were! Does she not remember the knee surgeries? Geez! LOL! So, after that, Maggie May and Maizy were both put on a short course of Fluoxetine (Prozac) ☺ . They just do not get along. At all. Both of them full of tortitude! We've tried natural products with no luck. Their dislike for one another really runs deep. I think we are seeing some improvement though!

Here are some recent shots of our Tootlebug!

Doing what she does best... cat napping!
Always with a leg sticking out. Funny girl!

Thanks for stopping by and celebrating Maggie May's special day!

Maggie May's Got Treats and an Eye Update!

This package from Chewy.com couldn't have arrived at a better time. Maggie May has had to endure 4x/day cold, stingy eye drops for the past three weeks. She has been such a trooper, but I like to give her a treat after the drops to make her (and myself) feel better.
They are some really great treats, too! ORIJEN Original Cat Treats are 100% meat, 100% natural, freeze-dried to preserve taste and freshness and super delicious according to Maggie May and her best bud, Ziggy.
She likes to take them right out of my hand. She is super gentle doing so. Such a sweetheart! I like rewarding her especially when the reward is a healthy treat.
Ziggy, on the other hand, will just about take my fingers off to get to the treat! LOL!
Ziggy says, "those treats are NOM NOM NOM!
Hey, where did the treats go??

Now for an update on Medical Mystery Maggie May... We have good news to share! Maggie May's eye lesion has been downgraded to a weak tropical low expected to fizzle out with in the next week or so! Yay!

As you can see by the latest photo, it's completely flat and no longer red! Looks like a little shadow on the eye now. Will there be a scar? At this point, I'm not sure. I almost feel like a lesion like that will probably leave behind some sort of reminder. Hope to hear from the vet tomorrow after he has reviewed the picture. Christmas wishes have been answered!
I must say we are happy, happy, happy!

Maggie May Update

Tomorrow will be one week since Maggie May's vet appointment. It's also one week of Trifluridine 1% eye drops- 4 times/day. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but the hubby and I both think that the lesion looks as though it has flattened these last couple of days. That sucker really stuck out from her eye last week. That alone is an improvement.

As for the size, it still looks be about the same diameter. You can also see in the picture that the surface looks different. Perhaps whatever it is, is starting to break up.

It sort of reminds me of a hurricane. The before image is like a powerful category 4 with the high cloud tops and tight eyewall. The bottom image is like when it starts to become disorganized after moving over cooler sea surface temperatures. The eyewall begins to collapse. Maybe it's a category 2 at this point.

The good news is- It doesn't look worse!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes, prayers and concern. We really, really appreciate each and every one of you!

Medical Mystery Maggie May

This morning I was able to get a better pic of the eye growth. Looks as though it's grown in the last few days, but that could just be my mind playing tricks on me or my panic taking over. I'm trying not to panic.

Well, we saw our wonderful vet this afternoon. Maggie May loves him and she's so calm, cool and collected when she sees him. He's so great with her and they go waaay back- to the days of luxating patellas. Oh, how I don't miss those days!

He took a good long look at the eye with the lighted magnifying scope and said he hadn't really seen anything quite like it before. Neither had I and I did a lot of googling! Warning: just don't google. Nothing good ever comes from it!

Anyway. He swabbed it and looked at the specimen on the slide. Infection was not detected, but it could be that he didn't swab hard enough and get enough on the slide. Eew! Maggie May was re-tested for FeLV- negative! She had been tested when she was just a little squirt, but better to be safe than sorry! So that leaves the possibility that it is viral- possibly the herpes virus rearing it's ugly head right in Maggie May's eyeball! So, we got a prescription for an anti-viral eye drop to give up to six times per day if possible. But since the hubs and I both work away from home, looks like it's going to be around 4 times a day. Caution: the drops may sting and they cost a small fortune. I just pray they work! If not, we may go another route or even have to see an out of town ophthalmologist.

Hopefully the drops will be the cure and I won't have to rename this blog "Maggie May and Her Super Expensive Eyeball."

Thanks everyone for all the wonderful prayers, purrs and well wishes!! Y'all are just great friends!

Prayers Needed for Maggie May

Hello everyone! I'm asking for some prayers, good thoughts, positive vibes, etc. for Maggie May.

She has developed a very strange lesion/growth on her left eye. It appeared rapidly over a week ago. We tried treating it with eye ointment and even gave her some L-lysine in hopes that it was some herpes virus flare-up. There has been no improvement. She has an appointment at the vet tomorrow afternoon at 5:00.

Of course, we are worried, but are remaining positive and optimistic. It does not seem to bother her in the least. She doesn't squint her eye or rub it. It's just there... but it's not supposed to be.

Thanks to you all and much love from us!

P.S. Maggie May and I are praying hard for our friends who are sick and lost - hugs to everyone!

5th Annual Maggie May Day!

I can't believe it has now been 5 years since her third and final knee surgery in 2008. Let's celebrate!!!

All of these wonderful graphics were created by none other than Ann of Zoolatry.

Maggie May continues to do well. You would not even know she ever had a problem. She runs and walks normal. She still sits a little funny, but that just adds to her cuteness!

Here are some pics of present day Maggie May....

Thanks so much for stopping by to celebrate this special day with us!!
